A new hair-loss combating therapy is being tested by Harley Street trichologists which is seeing men with thinning hair injected with platelet-rich plasma that has been taken from their own blood.

The treatment could potentially provide an elusive cure for male pattern baldness, which brings hair despair to millions of man across the globe.

The treatment was developed in the US by Dr Gary Hitzig, who is assisting in the first clinical trial of the therapy, which is being carried out by Harley Street clinician, Dr Raghu Reddy, at London's The Private Clinic.

Dr Reddy said there was a huge amount of buzz about the product's potential. The injections, which will also contain Acell, a powder extracted from pigs' bladders, will be given to 20 British men during a 30-minute treatment session.

"It is as close as we have come to a cure for male baldness," said Dr Reddy. "This revolutionary injectable combination of ACell and PRP may be the answer to restoring hair growth for those in the early to moderate stages of hair loss."

He made an analogy that the injection stops and heals hair loss in the same way that a flu vaccination stops the onset of the flu. The treatment involves the formation of a protective barrier, which protects remaining healthy hair-growing cells. It then goes on to duplicate the surrounding tissue, allowing healthy hair-growing cells to return.
