The hairline of the Grease and Pulp Fiction star has been a long-hidden secret under his collection of assorted hairpieces. While out for food with friends in California last week, however, the actor seemed to be embracing his balding, and revealed a noticeably thin thatch.
The 57-year-old star had spent the afternoon playing tennis and getting some food with friends, and he was evidently unfazed in displaying his head to the world - which seems at odds with the Scientologist's usual keenness to keep his hairline covered.
Some are saying that the actor's receding hairline could well stand him in good stead to play a role that he's portraying, that of notorious - and balding - master criminal, John Gotti.
The film is currently in pre-production and will chart the life of the crime underbelly of the Gambino Mafia family, in the Bronx. It is already scheduled to star Travolta's wife, Kelly Preston, in the role of Gotti's wife, Victoria.
Gotti Sr's flamboyant personality made him one of the most famous mobsters of the 20th century and he ruled the underworld until he died from cancer in 2002 while serving a life sentence.
