Cruel Intentions actress Selma Blair has opened up about one of the less well-known side effects of pregnancy and giving birth – hair loss.

The actress gave birth to her son, Arthur Saint Bleick, over the summer and recently opened up to the US’s People magazine on one of the more unexpected consequences she has suffered since welcoming him into the world.

“This is not so glamorous, but it’s true: I need to take longer showers so that I can collect the hair that falls out, and throw it away so I don't clog the drain,” she said. “Why do actresses never talk about that?”

She had already admitted that her post-pregnancy body was a “mess of Jello-O” but was not going to take getting her pre-baby body back to the extreme, instead taking it slowly, steadily and healthily.

The actress seemed to be in good spirits, however, over her falling-out hair, stating “It started falling out at the three-month mark, and I’m not a girl who likes extensions, so Selma’s going to be bald!”

A dermatologist writing on BabyCenter.com shed a little light on the matter, stating, “Normally, you lose about 100 to 125 hairs a day, but after delivery, you may be losing about 500 a day. This can be very disturbing, but try not to worry too much — you won’t go bald!”
