Photographs in the Daily Mail newspaper have shown Coleen Rooney, wife of footballer Wayne, with apparently thinning hair.
The shots, taken at the recent opening of a Liverpool nightclub, show Rooney with a seemingly thinning patch on the side of her head. The newspaper speculates that the thinning hair may be caused by her previous regular use of hair extensions. It also alleges that celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Alexandra Burke and Tamara Beckwith have all suffered from hair loss as a result of over-tight extensions and weaves and “just general hair abuse”.
Trichologists told the paper that hair thinning due to the use of extensions is a growing problem in the celebrity world. It is understood that the traction caused by hair extensions eventually weakens the hair, causing it to snap off or fall out. This damage is compounded by the use of chemical treatments and heated appliances.
Earlier this year, Coleen’s husband Wayne underwent a hair transplant to hide his receding hairline. At the time of his treatment, Rooney was reported as tweeting, "Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not [sic].”
