Home and natural remedies for hair loss
The fact is that there are no sure ways to prevent total hair loss. However, over the years many natural methods have been tried and some indeed do work for some. Natural alternatives to conventional pharmacological hair loss treatments are continued to be sought as many modern drug treatments have unwanted side effects.
In this first of two articles, we will look at some of the more effective natural methods to prevent and sometimes reverse hair loss through natural methods.
Massage and rubbing of scalp
There is certain evidence that regular rubbing or massage to the affected area can encourage dormant hair follicles to begin growing again, through the stimulation of blood circulation and activation of the sebaceous glands. The hair should be first washed with cold water, then the scalp should be rubbed vigorously with the fingers or with an electrical massager until a tingling sensation occurs.
Detoxification
Cleansing the metabolic system often produces excellent results in hair loss situations. An obvious start is the total abstinence from smoking, alcohol, and other non-essential drugs.
However, a person living in a modern city may still be exposed to many other toxins including traffic pollution and vehicle particulates, air-born germs, pesticides, chlorine, second-hand smoke, and some cosmetics. These poison the body to various degrees and place an extra burden upon the metabolic system. This will cause general health to take a downturn and with this comes hair loss.
One of the world’s most eminent thyroid researchers, Dr. John Lee, blames many female alopecia conditions on the body’s inability to store iron (ferretin) properly. Without adequate iron, the body cannot create ATP (denosine tri-phosphate), necessary for optimal metabolic and liver detoxification functioning. If a woman is also taking in caffeine, alchohol, nicotine or contraceptive or HRT medication, then these will overload the ATP-deprived liver. This disturbs the hormonal balance causing the adrenal glands to compensate by increasing testosterone output with the effect of losing hair on the scalp.
Daily diet
Without essential nutrients in the daily diet, the condition of hair deteriorates. Anyone who is losing hair, or has a tendency to do so should always follow a correct and well-balanced diet. Foods should be natural, without additives and contain all the essential nutrients. This can be achieved by including plenty of green vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts and grains. The hair will also benefit from the inclusion of honey, milk, wheat germ, yeast, vegetable oils and liver. Especially important are foods rich in minerals like iron, silica, calcium and iron. For treating hair loss in women, there are additional benefits to including protein and zinc supplements.
