Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a new form of hair transplantation
that is offering hope to a new generation of male pattern baldness
sufferers.
The baldness occurs in some men whose follicles fade and die. This happens because the follicles' activity is linked to the male hormone DHT, which is strong at puberty but can fade.
However, even men with baldness have plenty of living, active hair follicles at the back of the head and FUE makes use of these.
The technique transplants hair from the back of the head into the front of the head. This only has to be done once or twice in a man’s lifetimes as once in place, the follicle will continue to grow naturally.
One patient who underwent the treatment told the Mirror newspaper that the treatment gave him his confidence back, “there are no scars and after all that time feeling rubbish, I’ve actually got hair again. It took a few months for it to get thicker, but now it feels like I’ve gone back years. I’ve started going to the gym again and lost more than 2st and I feel so much more confident. It’s like I’m back to my old self again.”
