The English-born actress and soap star, Finola Hughes, has become a spokesperson for a hair loss prevention company as a result of needing treatment for the condition herself when she became a mother.
The actress has a starring role in the US soap, General Hospital, and is said to have been devastated when she found herself losing her hair on motherhood. She had to resort to using wigs.
Hughes commented: "Either the stress or the hormones had a huge effect on my hair and it started to come out in clumps and I lost a lot of the front volume of it." She went on to say: "I didn't know what to do... all you can do is put a little Band Aid on it... There wasn't anything on the market and I didn't want to put anything into my body that wasn't natural... and doctors aren't as aware of how devastating it is for a woman."
The star has now become a spokesperson for Viviscal, a new medication and haircare range aimed specifically at women suffering from baldness.
Hughes explained that it is a natural marine-based protein (supplement) featuring shampoos and conditioners. She added: “I use the haircare and it works."
