In her first interview since her divorce from Tiger Woods became final, Elin Nordegren confessed that the pressure of learning about her husband's philandering caused her hair to start falling out.
The Swedish mum-of-two said the avalanche of sordid revelations about her adulterous husband's other life caused her to suffer profound stress-related hair-loss.
The 30-year-old gave her first – and what she says will be her last – interview to People magazine, last week. The publication came out on the day after she officially ended her six-year marriage to Woods.
The article stated, “In the days before the divorce was final, she [Elin] began to lose her hair, her body surrendering to the stress where her spirit would not.”
One in three women encounter some form of hair-loss in their lives, with stress-related hair loss the most common after that caused by medical treatment.
It is officially called Telogen Effluvium and is caused by a sudden interruption to the natural hair growth cycle. Other causes of Telogen Effluvium can include sudden trauma, childbirth, major surgery, severe and severe chronic illness.
The interruption essentially causes large numbers of hair follicles to enter the state of telogen – or rest – simultaneously.
