An American doctor who specialises in hair transplants and restoration treatments has been his own guinea pig for one of the newest transplant techniques.

Dr Ken Williams of Irvine, California, submitted himself to the new NeoGraft method of transplanting hair, which does not leave behind the huge scar on the back of the head that the conventional STRIP method does.

Dr Williams was one of the first hair loss surgeons to be trained in the procedure, and was so confident in the effects of the therapy that he had his own team transplant 4,500 grafts into his own scalp to restore his thinning hair.

He said it was an incredible procedure and, from his own experience, would quickly recommend the procedure to anyone considering having it done.

"The efficiency and speed of the NeoGraft process combined with natural looking results and quick recovery make the procedure attractive to executives, business owners and anyone with a busy schedule," he said.

The minimally invasive procedure is effective for nearly all degrees of hair loss, allowing the recipient to wear their hair long or short. It cuts down the time consuming process previously associated with 'follicular unit' implants that each had to be transplanted individually by hand.
